Today I spent the day getting ready for the Make Mine Pink, "The Garden Path", Pink Friday event ~
I wanted to take you along so that you could see the journey of recreating a flea market find into something special for your cottage home ~
The first thing you do is find what you want to work on ~ it is getting harder and harder to find these awesome totes like the large one that I have shown ~ It is very old so the wood is rough and weathered ~ I really don't know what it was used for but I think it would be perfect for putting your flowers in as you cut them and get ready for a bouquet ~
The next step is to glue on embellishments if you want to ~ I love them because they add such a shabby chic look ~
Then you prime your piece with a good primer ~ my very favorite is Kilz oil based because it covers so well ~
After that is dry, which takes a few steps to do all sides, you paint on whatever color you would like and when that dries you distress it with sandpaper ~ I use flat paint because I like the look of it ~
I love it when the weather is sunny because it makes the best painting days !!
The items that I have shown you, along with other garden treasures, will be available on my website for Pink Friday ~
I am really excited to have my daughter Kristin join me at Katies Rose Cottage!
From Kristin.....
I am so excited to be starting this adventure with my mom :) It is a joy to be able to work with her, learn from her, and get to indulge in all things vintage! Here's a little about me~
My husband James and I have been married for 5 years and we have a little baby boy on the way (due less a couple of weeks from now!). We are so excited and blessed to be parents and I cannot wait to share our little family with you as we grow! I love to travel, so having a pilot for a dad and a travel photographer for a husband works out perfectly ;) I adore cooking, creating, and all things vintage! I've been praying about God's direction for my job for about three years and with a little one on the way, I knew I had to make a change and start doing something that will spark my passions . While I've always wanted to own my own business as so many member's of my family do, the opportunity just never presented itself. However, going on all of my mom's shopping adventures, rummaging through her office to create new treasures, and seeing the joy she has in her job made me secretly want to work alongside her. Then, as I watched her grow in her business, God did an amazing work! He opened the door for me to partner with my mom so I can finally do what I am so passionate about :) I am thrilled and blessed to have the opprtunity to work along side of a godly, creative, and beautiful woman, my mom :)
My daughter Stephanie has been creating the baby items for our Ellie Grace category ~ Today she added some just precious headbands that all have a vintage look~
It is really fun having her little adorable baby Ellie Grace for our model too!!
Make sure and follow us on facebook!! We post there daily ~
Ohhhhh I just got more paper roses in a gorgeous soft white ~ they are sooo pretty !! There are also some pretty forget me nots too ~ I just love all of these flowers ~ they are wonderful for creating bouquets and for all kinds of craft projects ~ You can find all of the flowers in our Paperie category starting later today Feb. 12th ~
This year we wanted to renovate our Christmas decor, but we had so many Christmas decorations already!
So, we decided to reuse some old decorations, add a few Black Friday finds, and a touch of vintage flare to make a handmade Christmas that was in our holiday budget ~
Our creation tools:
Adding German Glass Glitter to the ornament toppers and music sheets to the ornaments added vintage touches ~
We also made some Mercury Glass ornaments ~ You can find the tutorial for Mercury Glass here ~
After a day of creating we had all new decorations for our handmade Christmas ~
Have fun this Christmas adding your own handmade touches to your decor ~ Merry Christmas!
We are in baby heaven here in our homes with Kristin's son, Isaac who is 7 weeks and my other daughter Stephanie due now ❤
Stephanie is having a girl and is going to be a stay at home mommy so she is having fun creating with Kristin and I ~
Steph is making the sweetest vintage baby accessories and adding some other fun sweet things as well ~ Her facebook shop is named after her baby girl, Ellie Grace ~
Her creations are so precious and her prices are awesome so stop on by and say hi ~
The picture directly above is of a pacifier clip ~ We haven't seen a sweet vintage looking one anywhere and are loving this!
Today is another creating day waiting for Isaac's arrival ~ In our anticipation, we dug out some vintage medicine bottles and created these place card holders! We love them :)

I have been having fun creating more bottles and tying them with seam binding ribbon ~
This seam binding just sat in the HOT Texas sun after being bleached and tea dyed ~ It is all crinkled which is so cool ! I loved the way the colors looked when they were all piled together ~
We also just listed the new Somerset Life ~ It is beautiful as always ! You can find it here ~
