They both have babies and this was our first adventure on an airplane with them ~ Their daddies got to go too so that was fun!
Alot of our family lives on the central coast of California so that is one of our very favorite places and where we headed ~
They were excited to have the babies visit the beach since it is one of all of our favorite places to be ~ The weather was chilly but it was still a beautiful and sunny day! We went to Avila Beach which we love!
Ellie thought it was just the best thing ever! The swings were great... The sand was great!
Isaac pretty much didn't like it at all! We are definitely going to have to teach him that it is fun! Mommies arms were great!
This is my mom and I with Ellie ~
My son in law James took the following pictures ~ It is awesome having a photographer along :)
Ellie loved swinging!
Isaac loved hiking!
This is my most favorite picture of all .... My mom and dad with their great grandbabies!! What a beautiful and precious picture!! I adore it!
It was fun and there is so much more family and pictures but this is just a glimpse of our time there ~
We love the farmhouse look of vintage enamelware ~ Since Christmas is right around the corner, we thought we would show you an easy decorating idea using enamelware for the holidays ~
All the fun things we found at the flea market ~
First, we drilled holes in the bottom of a bucket ~
Then added soil from our garden ~
And planted holiday plants such as rosemary which we can use in our Christmas cooking ~
The finished project is an easy, colorful addition to your vintage decorating ~
We have lots of enamelware on sale here so you can create your own farmhouse decor ~
My husband and I got to spend a week at the central coast of California visiting with family ~ That is where we are from so it is going home for us ~
When I go back I often am amazed at what I took for granted when we lived there ~ I just LOVE the beach and LOVE the mountains that you have to drive over to get to the beach ~
This is Avila Beach where I spent so many days in the summers~ I want to come spend a week just here now ❤
Who would have thought that swinging on the beach could be the most fun ever!!
I LOVE my mom and dad's house that is on a mountain that overlooks 3 towns ~
I LOVE driving the winding roads seeing the beautiful wineries and vineyards that are everywhere ~
Spending time in California with my family that lives there is just some of our best times!
This is my sister, Kim and I in Morro Bay~
Thankfully we get to go back a few times a year which is a blessing for sure!

We love to create things with vintage lace from Canton and other flea markets, but what if you don't have access to flea markets?
{this is part of our vintage stash }
We decided to see what we could find at local thrift stores and made a fun shopping day out of it!
Digging through all the old clothes was such fun and we found some great dresses and shirts to create lace and ruffles ~
This full lace dress was only $1.99!
Isaac was worn out from all our shopping :)
Here are some of our finds ~
Next, we made black tea and tea dyed the white lace and dresses ~
Just hang them in the sun to dry ~
Once they were dry, we cut up the dresses to get the fabric we needed for our project ~
We used a tea dyed muslin drawstring bag ~
We pinned the lace to the bag and cut and gathered the skirt fabric to make a ruffle for the bottom of the bag. We then sewed the lace and the ruffle to the bag ~
Afterwards, we chose buttons, a tattered rose, and lace to embellish the bag. This is where you want to get creative! *Click here for the rose tutorial ~
Here is the final project!
And another bag from a baby girl dress we found ~
We had so much fun today! Go to your thrift store for inspiration :)

I have been making these burlap totes for quite awhile and just finished another one for my shop ~
The other day someone purchased one to use as a bag for the money dance at her vintage country wedding ~
I LOVE that idea and they are just the perfect size!
I am loving all the burlap and rustic things being used at weddings right now ❤
You can find these totes on our website ~
We create things for Save on Crafts which has great wedding decorations ~
We are in the process of making these bags for them which will be for sale soon ~
They are perfect for alot of different wedding and shower ideas ~ I love them as flower holders for the end of pews, they can be hung on the backs of chairs or ladders or use as gift bags ~
It is only a few days later and my hydrangeas are already dry ~ I decided to put them in vases and go pick another bundle~
Truly I cannot say which "stage" of flower on the bush dried the best because they all literally dried differently ~
They did not keep their color very well but I like them anyway ~
The real dark pink ones dried a darker purple which is so interesting to me ~ Here are pictures of how they look now ~
I am not thinking I learned a whole lot about when to pick the flowers and where to dry them but at least some of them are not all shriveled up and I have bouquets all over my house ~ ❤
Who needs curtains when you have a valance of hydrangeas ?
I am totally on a mission this year to figure out how to dry hydrangeas~ This is my attempt today ~ Actually these bouquets are cut at different times of the bloom to see which timing is the best ~
I LOVE how the colors are all so different ~ The bright pink are from a completely different plant but all the others are from the same one ~ Next year I am going to have some blue ones ~
This picture is some I dryed in a vase of water ~ They were bright pink when I cut them and they dried kind of shriveled and not really how I want them ~
These are some I cut at a later time of the bloom and put in water to see if that makes a difference ~ So far they are not dry but I am curious how they turn out in comparison to the hanging ones ~
Pretty soon every curtain rod in my living room is going have hydrangeas hanging from them ~ I am thinking I kind of love them!! I hope they keep the different colors ~
Today is another creating day waiting for Isaac's arrival ~ In our anticipation, we dug out some vintage medicine bottles and created these place card holders! We love them :)
I am loving these vintage farmhouse tools! As I was packing up shipping boxes today, my mom rediscovered these amazing vintage tools in the depths of our workshop. What an awesome find!
It is so much fun to find treasures, but it is even more rewarding to discover them for a second time!
I have to admit, it was tempting to keep these for my own house! But, I couldn't keep these treasures to myself, they are just too vintage not to share. I hope you love them as much as we do!
I am really excited to have my daughter Kristin join me at Katies Rose Cottage!
From Kristin.....
I am so excited to be starting this adventure with my mom :) It is a joy to be able to work with her, learn from her, and get to indulge in all things vintage! Here's a little about me~
My husband James and I have been married for 5 years and we have a little baby boy on the way (due less a couple of weeks from now!). We are so excited and blessed to be parents and I cannot wait to share our little family with you as we grow! I love to travel, so having a pilot for a dad and a travel photographer for a husband works out perfectly ;) I adore cooking, creating, and all things vintage! I've been praying about God's direction for my job for about three years and with a little one on the way, I knew I had to make a change and start doing something that will spark my passions . While I've always wanted to own my own business as so many member's of my family do, the opportunity just never presented itself. However, going on all of my mom's shopping adventures, rummaging through her office to create new treasures, and seeing the joy she has in her job made me secretly want to work alongside her. Then, as I watched her grow in her business, God did an amazing work! He opened the door for me to partner with my mom so I can finally do what I am so passionate about :) I am thrilled and blessed to have the opprtunity to work along side of a godly, creative, and beautiful woman, my mom :)
Do you ever have those "project fail" days ? Oh my gosh I totally had one today!
I got the bright idea to precut 40 yards of muslin to use for ruffles for some things ~ I love the washed look so I stuck it in the washer with lots of fabric softener ~
It came out in a HUGE ball of a tangled unraveled scrunched up mess!!
Sooooo I am going to make a gazillion rolled roses ~ There are going to be rolled roses on everything I am thinking :)
